Supporting Home Workers

Supporting Home Workers

This year we received a substantial increase in orders for external lumbar support cushions. With more people continuing to work from home they have proved to be very popular, to the extent that a single customer ordered 1,100 units to support their own home workers.

Ergonomic seating can affect productivity by as much as 25% and good seated posture will protect long term back health. It is no surprise then that people are sourcing office chair lumbar supports and finding the best ways to create a functional, ergonomic workspace at home. We wondered what else is important when it comes to creating an ergonomic workspace in the home and getting the most out of your day?

Natural light

Having a window in your home office and exposure to natural light will give a feeling of wellbeing but also could reduce eyestrain and headaches. If you are lucky enough to have some natural light why not add a plant or two? In many studies, plants have been shown to improve air quality, reduce stress and increase focus.

The heights and measurements

Sitting correctly at our work from home desk means we sit more comfortably and as a result take fewer breaks and get more done! Whatever chair we are using, we should adjust the seat height to have our feet flat on the floor. This helps the blood to circulate by not having the back of your knees resting against the seat of your chair. If the seat is not adjustable use something like a box or pack of A4 paper to rest your feet on.

If you find your desk height is uncomfortable and causes aches and tiredness in the arms you could raise yourself up on a seat cushion. AirCare supply external seat cushions for chairs which not only serve this purpose but also help to protect the spine. The added bonus with external lumbar is that you can transfer these seat cushions to your car and practically anywhere else to enjoy ergonomic seating and optimum comfort.

The height of your screen is important too and can cause neck and shoulder pain if not correctly positioned. Use a laptop stand which will angle your keyboard and provide comfort to your wrists and tilt the screen far enough back that your head is in a straight, neutral position. If you don’t have a laptop stand, use a ring bound file.

Playing the long game

If we intend working from home on a more permanent basis it makes sense, in the long run, to make certain investments. Having said that, they don’t need to be costly. Some essential items would be an external keyboard and mouse for a better ergonomic experience and also extend the life of your laptop keyboard.

Your ergonomic workspace

Ideally you want to have an ergonomic office chair or at the very least invest in good external lumbar support cushions. Sitting correctly and comfortably promotes blood circulation and oxygen supply to the brain, protects your coccyx and encourages a straighter lower spine. Our external office chair lumbar supports are either self-inflating or manually inflated and feature our patented AirBridge technology. You can learn more about our external lumbar system here.

With the correct desk height, a comfortable chair, a monitor stand, and good natural light you are creating an ergonomic workspace to get the most out of your workday.
